Tip Toland Workshop

Our two-week workshops enable ceramic artists to focus and immerse: furthering their knowledge of a specific aspect of clay, while rejuvenating their creativity amid the energy of fellow artists and the inspiration of a cultural setting renowned for its exquisite artwork and culture.

FIGURE SCULPTURE
in the skin

with Tip Toland
November 10-23, 2024

World-renowned hyper-realist sculptor Tip Toland generously shares her methods and philosophical approach to creating a vivid human figure, one that exudes pathos, vulnerability, and ultimately, transcendence. Artist’s anatomy, expressive emphasis, unflinching perceptivity, and an overriding sympathy for the subject are hallmarks of Toland’s figures. Working from a live model, she will guide participants step-by-step through her process of developing a bust at half life size. With care, focus, and expert guidance, participants will find themselves passing beyond mere technique as they study the model and hone their observation skills through the unblinking lens of hyper-realism. From there, the process becomes a creative adventure into the realm of human connection and empathy, personal narrative, and fluency in clay as an expressive medium.

TUITION: USD $2200 inclusive of all studio materials, glazes and firings, catered lunches, welcome dinner, and excursions around the island. We will assist in making recommendations for bookings for nearby hotels, bungalows or home-stays in convenient proximity to Gaya studio (accommodation is not included in tuition).
